Career Mentoring

An equally popular management development process is mentoring.  Eric Parsloe, in his book "Coaching, Mentoring and Assessing" defines both terms in a way that is echoed by many other writers in this field.  Coaching, he says, is "...directly concerned with the immediate improvement of performance and development of skills by a form of tutoring or instruction."

By contrast, mentoring, he says, is "... always one step removed and is concerned with the longer-term acquisition of skills in a developing career by a form of advising and counseling."

The widely accepted distinction between coaching and mentoring can be seen in two ways:

Our Career Mentoring Program is focused on the senior manager who is looking to broaden their career and grow into the executive ranks of the company. It may be an excellent way to get valuable coaching for the high potential individual or the newly appointed manager.

Our Mentoring Program works as follows:

  • 80% - 90% of our Mentoring Program is conducted over the telephone.
  • Our Mentoring Program is six months of unlimited access to me by e-mail, phone, fax, regular mail, etc., at your convenience.  Some people call me daily, some weekly, some monthly.
  • I return all phone calls within 2 hours and answer all written correspondence within 24 hours.
  • We can meet in person if convenient for both of us.  Some of our clients prefer this.  Others don't.  It's up to you.
